Of name changes and cat videos

Hi dear ADHD people out there!

It’s a new week, and I’m attempting to write a new blog post, only I’m not feeling particularly inspired today. Don’t know why, it’s just an uncreative kind of day for me.

So, I’m just going to keep this a little bit short, and write about what is going on in my life at the moment.

First of all: Cat videos. I really feel like they get a bad rep, but honestly, I like them a lot. Why? Because, damn it, I need to laugh sometimes, and cat videos are just the easiest way to get laughing. I mean, there’re all kinds of funny stuff out there, but cat videos are one of the few things I can actually enjoy unadultered. You see, I have ADHD, and I’m no longer brand new, so if I see funny videos of children, I usually think about the poor kids for most of them. With dogs, I can’t laugh at a lot of the videos, because all I can think is “Don’t laugh at that, that dog’s gonna end up in a shelter in no time, because you idiots would rather film their bad behavior than train it properly.” and, well, that’s no fun.

Of course, some of these things are also true for cat videos. But over all, cats are just hilarious, not to mention nearly indestructable, creatures. They do dumb shit all the time. And there’s no harm in laughing at a cat falling off a cupboard, because kitty isn’t going to hurt themself. Nope. So it’s just funny, and I enjoy being able to laugh at something that’s just completely (or at least mostly) unproblematic. And so should you. I’ve actually noticed, that the older I get, the less I laugh, and I can’t say I’m a fan. I like laughing, and I can tell it’s good for me, so sometimes I just need a way to get my brain on board.

Second thing I’m busy with today: Name change stuff. As I got married last year, I still have to change my last name in what feels like a million places. And, trust me, it isn’t fun. Some places have the option for changing your name hidden in the last possible corner of their settings. Some don’t allow you to do it on mobile. Many require a copy of the marriage certificate. There are phone calls and emails, and I’m still procrastinating going to the actual government building, drawing a number, and then waiting for ever to get my car paperwork changed. Ugh. It’s honestly so annoying. But. I got rid of my not-so-great last name, and I like that husband and I now share a name. Still not psyched about all this stuff.

The most annoying thing, of course, is the fact that changing my name in, like, 20 different places, requires a LOT of executive function. And guess what my ADHD brain doesn’t get all that much of recently? That’s correct. Executive function. Which is why I’m fully expecting to be done with changing my name everywhere by Christmas. Or maybe Easter. Next year.

Oh, and also, I still haven’t gotten around to cleaning the house. It just seems like an impossible task at the moment. And I managed to drop an almost empty bottle of balsamic vinegar on the kitchen floor yesterday, so I really need to wipe there since the floor is now sticky (even though I obviously used hygene wipes to clean up the biggest mess). The problem is, if I start there, I’d want to wipe the rest of the ground floor. Which means first vaccuuming and picking up that entire floor. Which means first dusting everything there, since it doesn’t make sense to wipe first, and then dust. So, yeah, that’s not happening today. Oh well. Maybe on Friday.

Anyway, that’s about all I can come up with today. I’m hoping for some time in the future, when I can hopefully get some better sleep, and feel well rested in the mornings. And maybe, just maybe, don’t feel like I need to take a long nap at 3pm. I’m not a toddler, after all. Just not sure my brain’s aware of that.

Good bye! I hope I’ll have more to write about next week.
